One of the easiest waterfalls to access on the Road to Hana is also one of the best.
It's easy to lose track of time of the Road to Hana. Twice we've departed at 5 AM and were still yearning for more by the time the sun set.
Wialua Falls is one of the spots that is easy to miss due to lack of rainfall, fatigue, or shortage of time.
As you near the end of the most reputable route, you cross a small bridge with a towering waterfall off to your right.
Just after the bridge is a small parking area, where with patience you should be able to secure a spot. The waterfall is just a short trip away, so people do not remain here for long.
From the parking area, a few short steps will provide you with a worthy view of the falls. It's one that seems to float down the rock face in almost a mist-like fashion. The more adventurous can take the short, but volatile trail to the base of the falls. Here, you will not only see the falls, but you will certainly feel it as well with the mist hitting those nearby.
Some will swim at the base, others will just explore the exit stream below. This is a waterfall that I'd spend half a day seeking out back home, so it was disappointing that we had to move on so quickly after arriving.
Be sure to earmark 20 minutes for this stop!
Know Before You Go
The parking area fills up quickly, but also turns over quickly so use patience
There is often locals parked here selling fruit or other local items
The "trail" to the base of the falls isn't for everyone. It's not particularly difficult, but a bit more unsecured, so you could take a tumble if not careful.
Always be cautious of flash floods!
