Rise to the top of one of LA's tallest skyscrapers and cruise down a glass-bottomed slide
After parking in a downtown garage ($8 if you use the recommended garage), we made our way to the US Bank building. Someone will scan your tickets and you will go through a security checkpoint.
After clearing security, you'll have a nice elevator ride to a higher floor where you get the all-too-common photo in front of a green screen that you'll have the opportunity to purchase later.
After yet another elevator ride and you'll get to the top. At the top, there are both indoor and outdoor areas for visitors to take in. I did appreciate the ability to have a craft beer and enjoy the surroundings before the crowds started to arrive. The interior had loads of Los-Angeles trivia lining the walls and the exterior views had everything from skyscrapers to mountain-tops.
The jewel of this experience for many is taking the slide on the exterior of the building. Similar to the Sears/Willis Tower in Chicago, there is a glass platform that allows you to be suspended outside of the building. The ride itself, while presenting a inspiring view, is over in a moment and doesn't provide the adrenaline rush one would hope for. An interesting experience certainly, but not particularly memorable.
The observation desks also have some angel wings painted on the glass, so look for all of those aspiring social media models to be spending 10-15 minutes trying to get that perfect pose.
All in all, it's a fun experience for an hour or two. Beautiful views of Los Angeles, great seating to take in a beverage, and a unique experience that probably can't be had anywhere else in the world.
Know Before You Go
There are separate fees for parking, admission to the tower and the slide itself. Make sure you understand what you've purchased before arriving.
Crowds can build quickly, potentially making it a much less enjoyable experience.
The slide ride itself does not allow cameras or phones, so getting that perfect photo is a challenge.
Food & Beverages are available for purchase at the top.
The space holds private parties, so ensure that you are visiting during a time that it is open to the public.
Resources
Location
Accessible from the 10, 110, or 101 freeways and not terribly far from The Broad, Staples Center, or Grand Central Market. Anytime you're going to downtown Los Angeles, you'll want to add 30-60 minutes for traffic. Parking is recommended in the Westlawn Parking Garage, which is just a few minutes walk to the Skyspace entrance.
