Chicago Style Pizza in Southern California

As difficult as it is to believe, there is not a lot of reputable options for Chicago-style pizza in Southern California.

When you arrive, you'll likely be greeted by a member of the staff who will ask if you are dining in or taking your order to go. Space is very limited in this small restaurant, so it is advisable to arrive early on weekend nights.

Upon ordering, the staff is likely to make it clear that due to the way that they create the pizza, it could take up to 45 minutes to prepare.  I appreciated they being forthcoming with this information as in the age of instant gratification, I was not accustomed to that long of a wait time.

The dining area has roughly a dozen table, 4 televisions and interesting decor all around the restaurant.

Due to their extensive drink list, we were able to try a few new drinks and during our wait and the pizza arrived in no time.  The highlight may have been watching the server make that first cut and lifting it onto the plate.

When customers were getting their order to go, the employees were opening the box to show them the finished product and stressed transporting it upright so that the pizza would be in tact at the destination.

All in all, I was pleased with the experience - the price points are a bit higher than I'm accustomed to, but felt that the quality was worth the investment.  Use caution on the size that you order because it is very hearty.

Know Before You Go

  • Restaurant is a bit hidden in this shopping plaza, furthest from Harbor Blvd.

  • Small space so a table may be tough to come by at dinner time on weekends.

  • The deep dish pizzas take roughly 45 minutes to prepare, so you'll have to find a way to entertain yourself until then.

  • Taps rotate frequently so the beverage you had a week ago may not be there on your next visit.
