Suburban Waterfall worthy of a National Park.
When I first saw images of this towering waterfall in Southern Idaho, I expected it to be found in one of the nation's National Parks. With a 200 foot drop and a trail that actually goes behind the waterfall itself, I figured it would be in a park that visitors would travel hours to see.
To my surprise however, the waterfall was located just a short walk from a Costco, Target, and Olive Garden in the town of Twin Falls.
Perrine Coulee is a less traditional name for a waterfall and is named for pioneering entreprenur Ira Burton Perrine. Coulee is derived from the French word "to flow."
Probably the trickiest part of visiting this waterfall is the parking. There is extremely limited parking near the base of the falls and odds are that you'll have to park a half mile away and make the short walk to the falls.
At the trailhead hikers will cut left and follow the path under the waterfall. Here, hikers are likely to encounter quite a bit of mist from the falls and a rain jacket is recommended.
The views are absolutely mind-blowing! Behind the falls, you'll hear the roar of the falling water and are likely to get sprayed by the mist from the falls.
The payoff for this hike in incredible. If you anywhere near Twin Falls, I'd highly recommend checking this one out. While you're in the neighborhood, you may also want to check out Shoshone Falls.
