Small picturesque beach among several smaller resorts.
Staying at the underwhelming Napili Shores, we had easy access to Napili Beach and visited several times during the course of our stay.
It's a crescent shaped beach flanked by rocks at each end. As you gaze out to the ocean, you can see the islands of Moloka'i and Lana'i.
While I'm sure tide patterns play a part, there were times that even individuals sitting furthest from the water got hit by the incoming tide (choose your spot wisely). There's even a creepy overflow area that the water seems to pool in near the south part of the beach.
With so many resorts stacked up against it, the beach is often filled with people, but it never felt overcrowded.
At the north end of the beach is a restaurant known as the Sea House. At times, it's challenging to get a seat here, but when you do it's a wonderful setting gazing out at the beach and the waves. Since we spent time filling up on food at Slappy's and the Maui Brewing Company, we did not get the opportunity to eat here, but did sample a variety of beverages on the menu.
Know Before You Go
We were fortunate enough to be able to walk to this beach from our hotel, but I'd recommend researching the parking parameters before you go. The rules seem to change consistently, so make sure you understand where you can park.
Be careful where you place your belongings - the tide seemed to cover most of the beach at times, so your stuff could get wet... or worse sucked into the ocean.
I'd recommend keeping your children away from the water overflow area. Who knows what types of organisms are living in there.
There are no lifeguards on the beach, so swim at your own risk.
