Miracle Hot Springs

Hot springs with pools of varying temperatures and ... an alligator.

Pools of Miracle Hot Springs in Buhl, Idaho

After a morning of hikes around Twin Falls, we took the drive west to the town of Buhl to get in the local hot springs. We started at Miracle Hot Springs, one of two sister resorts that are across the street from one another.

The hot spring operates year-round and with its soft and odorless water. The mineral water used here bubbles to the surface at 138 degrees but it cooled by the Snake River aquifier.

Upon entering the pool area, adults are charged a $12 admission fee. There are lockers on site and the admission allows access all day.

The main pool area had to large pools that were separated into smaller sections that seemed to have different temperatures. One of the sections had a "roof" and that was easily the hottest water in the resort.

Private Hot Springs Pool at Miracle Hot Springs in Buhl, Idaho

In addition to the main pools, visitors could rent small private rooms. The rooms were very reasonably priced at $5-$10 per hour. While the privacy was nice, you're pretty much walled in on four sides. The top is open and would be a nice touch when it's snowing, but it loses its appeal quickly on a normal day. These pools require reservations, so I'd highly recommend you do that in advance.

Beyond the pools, there is a small picnic area, clamping domes, and camp sites. The final touch is found northwest of the pools. An alligator apparently lives here due to the warm water. While the water temperature may be similar to Florida, I'd be curious of how he or she adapts during the colder temperatures. It was nestled in the far corner when I visited, so I didn't really get a good look.

Open year-round, be sure to stop in any time you're in Twin Falls, except of course on Sundays.
