Cafe specializing in customizable teas and lèige waffle ice cream sandwiches.

Lèige Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich (Horchata Ice Cream)

After a recent dinner, my wife mentioned that she wanted to try a waffle ice cream sandwich.

We took a trip our to Leaf n Cream, a place most notable for their customizable teas. The cafe was of a decent sized space, with about a dozen tables and even a few games for the patrons to enjoy.

Looking over the menu, we saw what we were looking for - the lèige waffle ice cream sandwich. My question was what made a lèige waffle any different from a traditional North American waffle?

Per Waffatopia, "Lèige waffele are a centuries old street treat in Belgium, made from yeast risen dough and Belgian pearl sugar. This gives the waffle its own natural sweetness which is great for a no-topping needed grab and go breakfast."

The "sandwiches" came with a choice of one of 8 ice cream flavors, some traditional, others not so much (cotton candy, taro, horchata). Also included was one topping, which ranged from sprinkles to syrup to many common cereal brands.

We placed our order, paying roughly $6 per ice cream sandwich and after roughly a 10 minute wait, our orders were up. The treats were served in a small paper tray and small plastic spoons were provided. Due to the heat of the waffle, it needed to be consumed fast or else be left with soggy waffles and liquid ice cream.

During our visit, many other customers passed through, but most seemed more interested in the vast menu of teas.

It was a relatively quick visit, but enjoyed trying a different take on the waffle and looking forward to returning and trying the teas.
