Kiitos Brewing

Brewery that offers some pinball with your beer flight.

Kiitos Brewing Beer Flight - Salt Lake City

After seeing a social post for their glitter-filled "Big Gay Ale," my wife and I wanted to make this brewery our next stop on our Utah beer tour.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, the area where the brewery is located has a lot of construction currently underway. Getting to the brewery required a round-about route, but I assume this will be a bustling part of the city in no time.

I couldn't find a lot of history on the brewery with my quick web search, but their mantra seems to be all about gratitude: "from the bottom of our hearts to the heads on our beers." Their name, Kiitos, effectively translates to "Thank you" in Finnish. When I originally attempted to enter their website, I was thrown off by the age verification in Finnish.

Like so many other breweries, the building is rather nondescript, located right next to some railroad tracks with few other business around.

Once inside the brewery, you'll encounter several coolers full of beer and a substantial offering of merchandise. The bar is right by the front door, and you'll find a large list of beers right above the bar. Also found at the bar are the "Make your own Flight Lists" and "boozy cupcakes" by Sweet Vinyl Bake Shop available for purchase.

The tasting room is substantial, with many barrel tables and even a window into the actual brewing area. We visited during a quiet Saturday afternoon, but if you go during Friday or Saturday evenings, they also have a patio area available for seating.

I loved the added touch of having pinball machines at the back of the tasting room (and even a quarter dispenser)! There was no fewer than ten machines, and they had both nostalgic machines as well as more modern ones.

Throughout the brewery, you'll see information about HEBS, or High Efficiency Brewing System, which uses 40% less water, 15-20% less grains, and limits wastewater.

The brewery also puts all of their beers into cans, as its a sustainable metal that can be recycled indefinitely. A common misconception is that beer in cans tastes worse than in other mediums, but it actually is best at preventing sunlight from getting to the beer.

If you look on their year-round page, you'll notice a different creature featured on each can. There are certainly some more traditional brews there, but also some more unique ones, including the Coffee Cream Ale and the Blackberry Sour.

Some of the more unique items that we tried via a beer flight included a Peanut Butter Stout, Salt & Pickle Ale, Strawberry Milkshake Ale, and my wife's favorite was the Coconut Latte.

On their beer list, they also call out which beers are not vegan, and even offer a gluten free option.

Lastly, I noticed that they do offer "beer blends," similar to what you'd see when you mix Guinness with a cider.

Clearly, they have something for everyone, so be sure to stop in and show your gratitude!

Know Before You Go

  • Patio hours appear to be only 5 - 10 PM on Friday and Saturday evening.

  • There is a coin machine that accepts bills at the back of the tasting room.

  • Limited food options on site, but you may be able to try the boozy cupcakes.

  • Beer flights offer five beers at once. Use the markers at the bar to make your choices.

Location

Found in south west Salt Lake, it's just a stone's throw from the I-15, but requires a rather round-about way of getting there as there are several nearby road closures.
