Beer, Cinnamon Rolls, and Award-winning fried fish
After a recent 9-mile hike in Little Cottonwood Canyon, we were eager for not only a drink, but also a meal. Hoopers seemed to fit the bill with an extensive breakfast and lunch menu.
After parking in the attached lot, we entered through the double doors and entered the queue to be seated. Despite having two large dining areas, there was a short wait to be seated. Before being seated, I noticed a plaque that read "All of the solid fir timber beams used in Hoppers were cut from trestle pilings used to support the Southern Pacific Railroad Trestle in the Great Salt Lake."
As we made our way to our seat, we immediately noticed that many tables had some appealing cinnamon rolls amongst everything learn. Lucky us, these cinnamon rolls are complimentary at Hoopers.
Though the "Brewery" portion was much less the emphasis here, I had to try some of the beers. Again, the quirky Utah laws only allow for two tasters at once, so it was a bit more of a process to try all of the beers.
They seem to have seven flagship beers on draft, all at 5% ABV or less. The beers included a Honey Hefeweizen, Hot Headed Redhead (Irish-style red ale), This is the Pilsner (Bohemian-style Pilsener), Pale Morning Ale (American-style pale ale), Madame X Stout, Helles Festbier (Munich-style Helles lager), and the Drifter Lager (New Zealand style combo of brown ale and lager).
Beyond just the beer, they did also offer a selection of cocktails and wine. The bar area was just a small sliver of the total square footage, so it appears this spot prioritizes dining despite their many brew medals hanging on the wall.
As for the menu, there seemed to be something for everyone. The "award-winning fish & chips" caught my eye and it certainly did not disappoint.
While the beer itself was good, I absolutely loved the food. Several other items on the menu caught my eye, so I'll have to return to try more.
