Grid City Brew Works

Brewery that offers beer in CO2, Nitro, and Cask forms

Grid City Beer Works flight. Cream Ale in CO2, Nitro, and Cask form

We recently visited one of Salt Lake City's newest breweries in Grid City Brew Works. Their mission is to brew approachable beers that you can drink all day. Per their website, their three core beliefs lie in Taste, Balance, and Finish.

We stopped in early on a Saturday afternoon before the crowds started to form. Immediately inside the door was a small area filled with merchandise and a cooler of beer cans. As the hostess showed us inside, we noticed a large print of an old barn/shed with the word "Beer" on it. We would later find similar images sprinkled throughout the brewery.

My primary goal was to try their beer flight which offered the same beer in three different forms: a traditional CO2, a Nitro version (creamery Guiness-like), and a Cask version (often found in Europe). I've had these forms of beer in the past, but never all three in a singular flight. While they had over a dozen drinks on tap, the three primary offerings were the Cream Ale, Pale Ale, & Brown Ale.

We took a look at the menu and quickly noticed several unique offering that we wanted to try. Fried Green Tomatoes with vegan pimento cheese (a southern staple), Vegan Cashew Mac & Cheese, Gato Tacos (catfish), and Edamame Hummus.

I noticed an item on the menu called Lukr Milk and quickly asked one of the bartenders about it. He told me that they imported a special tap from the Czech Republic that would allow them to control the flow of the foam. Apparently it's tradition over there to drink the beer foam as a shot after dinner. By the time I ordered it, I was already absurdly full and could not take in down in one shot. After a few moments, the foam started to transform into beer.

The drink menu also included seltzers and pilsner pours. In 16 oz can form, they had an Extra Pale Ale, and Imperial Pale Ale, Extra Brown Ale, and and Imperial Brown Ale. They also have some limited releases available.

In my short time in Utah, this was my favorite brewery to date. Between the unique beer flights, the lukr milk, the extensive menu (with many vegan offereing), this is a spot I plan on frequently visit in the future.

Know Before You Go

  • As with most breweries, check the hours prior to visiting as they often change.

  • The signature flights come in three options: Cream Ale, Pale Ale, and Brown Ale.

  • The Lukr Milk is intended to be drank as a shot. If you wait to drink it, you'll find it quickly turns to beer.
