Beverly Gardens Park

Linear Park in Beverly Hills featured the historic Beverly Hills Sign.

Seagull takes flight over lily pond at Beverly Hills Sign

On a recent Saturday morning, I had the opportunity to visit Beverly Gardens Park before the droves of tourists came to get their photo with the popular Beverly Hills sign.

Having not visited for several years, I was surprised to see a lily pond in front of the sign as when I had visited in the past, there was only grass in front of the sign.

Upon doing further research, the original design did include the lily pond, but it was removed in the 1970s. As part of its Centennial celebration in 2014, the lily pond was added back and remains a focal point of the park. I love the addition as several visitors can get their photo simultaneously without someone obstructing their view.

Walking about the balance of the nearly 2 mile linear park provided several beautifully curated paths and many art installations. My favorite was a sculpture known as Takeaway by Tom Friedman. The installation was 14 feet tall, made from stainless steel.

While most of the art is centralized in the 3 main blocks, if you venture down further, you'll find a rose garden, fountains, and more. Several benches are placed throughout the park & I particularly enjoyed sitting and people watching while enjoying a cup of coffee.

If you're in the area, it's a great photo opportunity or a chance to enjoy some green space among the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.

Know Before You Go

  • After the early morning hours, you're likely to have to feed a meter to park near the sign.

  • The park is linear, so unfortunately unless you start at one end, you'll have to backtrack to see the other end of the park.

  • The park runs along Santa Monica Blvd, so expect lots of traffic noise nearby.
